A planet that could support life?

Out of all the articles I've read to blog about, this one definitely shocked and amazed me the most by far. Scientists claim to have found a planet that has an Earth-like temperature, not too hot and not too cold, but most mind-blowing of all, they are 99% sure that the "Goldilocks" planet bears water in it's liquid form. The section explaining that life on another planet doesn't necessarily mean aliens, but could only mean a single cell was complete news to me. I'd always assumed that if there was life on another planet, it would suggest an alien like E.T. However, by the end of reading the article I have to say I was pretty disappointed. The entire time I was reading it, I expected that there was going to be an explanation about somehow reaching the planet or finding out if there was water or life there indefinitely. Unfortunately, there wasn't and I suppose the question asking us if we're alone on Earth remains unanswered.

Some De-friend Facebook

Certain people have become aware of the dangers that Facebook poses to youth. Teenagers have began to take precautions by slowly limiting their hours on this addictive website, and instead focus all the time that would've otherwise been spent on Facebook, on their school studies. I believe that what these people have done is really smart and have witnessed for myself the threat that online websites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace pose. I do try to spend less time surfing the Web, especially when a deadline for an important assignment is nearing or when exams are coming up. Although I think that youth is gaining and promoting awareness towards the addictive nature of Facebook, I also think that being aware of the problem and fixing the problem are two completely different things.

Embrace Life - Always Wear A Seatbelt

This commercial had an extremely effective impact on me, and I think that whoever came up with the ideas did an amazing job. For example, when the coloured sequins were in the air, it was reminiscent of glass during a car accident and gave the entire commercial more meaning in my opinion. The idea of the man's daughter and wife being his "seatbelt" was an excellent way of saying that when you put on your actual seatbelt, you're not only protecting yourself but your family too.

"Too Few Animated Women Break The Disney Mold"

Ariel and Flounder from The Little Mermaid

This article surprised me, I'd never actually noticed the stereotypes within the Disney movies until I read about it. Now that I have heard about it, though, I want to go watch Disney animation all over again and discover for myself if there really always is discrimination and stereotyping. Sadly, I think a piece of my childhood died along with the publication of this article. Disney movies were always a huge favourite of mine, along with almost every other 90's child. Recently, I went to see Toy Story 3 in theaters and I'm proud to say that my love for Pixar Animations has not wavered too much despite this article.

Disney Stereotype Article

"Saw Franchise Creates Buzz, But Is It Any Good?"

I don't like this photo at all.
But yeah, its Jigsaw.
I honestly have no idea why I even read this article, the 'Saw' movies scare me to death. When I started reading though, it was surprisingly interesting and not gory at all to see the different point of views that people have towards these movies. According to the article, many people absolutely love the series and watch it specifically during Halloween, believing it is the perfect horror film. Others, however, say that the movies use multiple torture scenes to distract the audience from seeing that there isn't really a plot or story behind any of it. Personally, I agree with the latter, even though I've only seen a select few of the movies (thankfully). Although, no matter what my opinions are, I also believe that the Saw franchise will continue to disgust and shock its audience while making a lot of money. :)

Photoshop Craze

Photoshop App - Article
I think its crazy that technology has gotten so far as to produce photo-editing for a phone! The possibility of having a Photoshop application on an iPhone made me want to go out and buy one really badly. Its amazing that you can have a phone, a camera, internet access, so many different types of apps and NOW a picture editing device. Knowing all of that, I can't even imagine whats next for Apple, and what kind of new gadgets they'll create for our entertainment.

This Too Shall Pass

Seeing OK Go in concert in Grade Seven definitely encouraged me to watch their
video, This Too Shall Pass. I not only thought they were incredible live, but found this music video mesmerizing. The one thing that I didn't particularly like was that I didn't have a full understanding of everything that was going on, for example, I didn't know why OK Go were wearing different colours throughout the video, and why there was a lot of colour contraptions incorporated, like the rainbow scene. Other than that though, I found all of the scenes interesting and captivating, especially the part with the guitars and piano. The entire music video itself already reminded me of the Honda Ad with the contraptions, but the instruments definitely added more to my opinion.
